JD Whittemore PT, DPT, SCS
Clinic DirectorDr. Whittemore is the Westlake Clinic Director.
J.D. Whittemore graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) and completed his undergraduate work at Louisiana Tech University, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion. While at the University of Central Arkansas, Dr. Whittemore worked as a research assistant. Through his work as a research assistant he was able to co-author research regarding the test-retest reliability of graded exercise testing, which was published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Dr. Whittemore is a national member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), as well as the orthopedic and sports sections of the APTA. He completed his sports physical therapy residency through Evidence In Motion.
Utilizing his skill and knowledge as a Board Certified Sports Specialist (SCS), Dr. Whittemore enjoys working with athletes of all levels. As a sports specialist he is equipped with the skill and knowledge to help athletes on the field and in the clinic, a process that continues throughout their injury and recovery until they can return to what they love.
In his spare time, J.D. enjoys playing a variety of sports and other outdoor activities. He has completed multiple half-ironman distance races among other triathlons and obstacle course races. Dr. Whittemore is also an active member of LifeAustin Church, volunteering with the church’s youth and young adult groups. Additionally, he enjoys time out on his SUP and taking his Weimaraner, Dutch, to Zilker Park.

Karl Giurlani PT, DPT

Karl Giurlani PT, DPT
Physical TherapistDr. Karl Giurlani graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. He completed he undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Physical Therapy at Southern Oregon University in his home state of Oregon. Dr. Giurlani is currently working to become a Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) through the Texas Physical Therapy Specialists Residency program. Dr. Giurlani is a national member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and enjoys attending local and national conferences to keep up with the latest evidence-based treatment.
Dr. Giurlani works to provide each patient with custom exercise programs tailored to their goals. Each exercise is designed to meet the patient at their current phase of recovery. He enjoys working with a diverse population of patients to improve stabilization, strength, endurance, flexibility, and mobility throughout the whole body to help each person regain their independence in daily living, sports, and the hobbies that they love.
Outside of the clinic, Karl enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, swing dancing, volunteering, and playing recreational sports such as pickleball and sand volleyball.

Ryan Ylanan PT, DPT

Ryan Ylanan PT, DPT
Ryan Ylanan graduated from Baylor University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT). He also received his Master of Science Degree in Kinesiology from California State University East Bay (CSUEB). During his time at CSUEB, Dr. Ylanan performed sports psychology research, lectured undergraduate courses, and was selected to present at the 31st Annual CSU Research Competition at Cal Poly State University San Luis Obispo. Currently, Dr. Ylanan is enrolled in Evidence In Motion’s Sports Residency Program to become a Sports Clinical Specialist and is a national member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Growing up in Hayward, California, Dr. Ylanan has experience coaching hundreds of youth athletes around the Bay Area emphasizing injury prevention, performance, and community outreach. He has a passion to help all athletes reach their highest potential regardless of age, sport, or level of competition. Dr. Ylanan believes Nike founder, Phil Knight’s saying, “If you have a body, you’re an athlete.”
Outside of the clinic, Ryan enjoys traveling and sports such as volleyball, basketball, and Muay Thai with 5 years of competitive experience. When he’s not working with patients, Ryan enjoys Austin’s live music and food scene, working out, and hiking.

Michael Kawazoe PT, DPT

Michael Kawazoe PT, DPT
Physical TherapistDr. Michael Kawazoe earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Baylor University. Prior to that, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Master of Arts in Teaching from Austin College in Sherman, TX. Michael will next be working to become a Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) through the Texas Physical Therapy Specialists residency program.
Michael has long had a passion for helping people find success and achieve their goals. Prior to becoming a Physical Therapist, Dr. Kawazoe taught remedial high school Mathematics and coached Soccer, where he developed and honed his skill set for assisting, educating, and empowering students. He now combines those qualities with his passion for physical therapy with the hopes of helping patients regain their lost mobility and activity levels.
In his free time Michael likes to keep an active lifestyle running Town Lake or hiking one of the many Austin Trails. He also retains his passion for soccer, which he played through college and beyond, by watching and attending games and as a partner in the local nonprofit It Starts With Soccer.

He earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Currently enrolled in the sports residency program with Texas Physical Therapy Specialists, Dr. Lukose is working towards becoming a Sports Clinical Specialist, with a focus on advanced sports rehabilitation, injury prevention, and return-to-sport conditioning.
With a foundation in both basketball and track, Dr. Lukose has honed a deep understanding of the biomechanics, movement patterns, and conditioning necessary for athletes to excel at the highest levels. His background in these sports provides him with valuable insight into the physical and mental resilience required for peak performance. This experience, combined with his advanced training in physical therapy, equips Dr. Lukose to create personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that address not only recovery but also the demands of athletic performance. Dr. Lukose applies a meticulous approach to optimizing rehabilitation, taking into account the unique demands of each sport and athlete. His passion for sports and movement science allows him to stay at the forefront of the field, ensuring that athletes receive the most effective and cutting-edge care.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Lukose remains deeply engaged in maintaining a healthy lifestyle through weightlifting, playing various sports, and continuous learning. He enjoys connecting with others in the athletic community and believes in the power of an active, balanced life.
